Diane was an Adjunct Professor of Social Work for 10 years at The University of Kansas, School of Social Welfare and a Field Liaison and Field Instructor. She has also held administrative positions as a program Director and Coordinator. Diane is a frequent local and national trainer on a wide variety of mental health and workplace development topics with clinicians and companies. Diane is most passionate about providing quality and engaging professional development to clinicians, employees, and leaders. For fun, Diane loves to spoil her four Dachshunds and rock out to 80’s music.

Course Overview
This course covers on-demand Implicit Bias & Anti-Oppressive Social Work Practice content.
There is a great need for clinicians to be knowledgeable and skilled in cultural diversity. Diversity exploration regarding biases, humility, sensitivity, and competence will be the focus of this presentation. In this presentation, attendees will be encouraged to explore why and how cultural diversity is critical in formulating treatment approaches and being person-centered.
Types of racism and examples will be presented. Attendees will be provided resources and information on combating implicit biases and using culturally affirming strategies with clients to identify their experiences with racism, bias, and discrimination. Attendees will be more informed and confident in their skills and knowledge related to all things cultural diversity.
Anti-oppressive info:
According to the Maryland State regulation (here):
"3 of the required Category I continuing education units shall have anti-oppressive social work practice content focusing on race, culture, or equity, and include one or more of the following topics:
(i) Cultural humility;
(ii) Social justice;
(iii) Racial equity;
(iv) Implicit bias; or
(v) Anti-racism practices;"
- Explain at least three core concepts of racism, discrimination, prejudice, and bias.
- Identify at least three methods of exploring diversity issues with clients.
- Formulate a deeper understanding of one’s own biases and cultural identities
