Course Description:
Childhood is a time for foundational development that carries one through life (Schore, 2016). It’s an opportune time to learn autonomy, confidence and life skills. However, this time is often fraught with attachment wounds and challenges that threaten to undermine and derail a child’s future success. This course is about preventative and restorative interventions for parents and individuals.

Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk wisely shared, “The parent-child connection is the most powerful mental health intervention known to humanity.” Join a noted trauma expert as he lays out the 10 foundations for a healthy and productive childhood, with a focus on healing when those items were not present.

This short but jam-packed workshop will look at four aspects of childhood to adulthood. First, it will show how to use preventative measures to give a child the healthiest foundation possible. Second, it will define areas of healthy and damaged attachment. Third, it will define some of the often-ignored wounds of childhood and development. Lastly, it will show how trauma-informed interventions that include grounding and self-parenting, can allow one to repair past wounds and move forward in life.

This is a provocative, insightful and empowering training you don’t want to miss.

Learning Objectives:
Upon the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Define attachment theory and how it impacts childhood development.
  • Recall 5 negative behaviors and 5 trauma-focused interventions to help combat them.
  • List 3 self-parenting skills to help clients with grounding and processing their past experiences.
