Summary: This webinar is for mental health professionals and school counselors who have foundational training in providing therapy to children, and who are seeking innovative strategies to transition to online counseling.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, many experienced child therapists have found themselves forced to shift their clinical practice to online delivery methods. As a result, many tried and true techniques and interventions feel as if they’ve been lost, compromised or rendered useless, leaving therapists and parents frustrated and concerned about the effectiveness of therapy.
With children experiencing higher than ever pandemic level anxiety, combined with schools being closed and parental nerves wearing thin, children are in great need, now more than ever, to have a compassionate and skilled therapist who can deliver effective tele-services.
There are many issues to consider when conducting online therapy and it has been found that most resources are designed for working with adults. This course brings the knowledge and expertise of an internationally celebrated child play therapist and supervisor who has taught thousands of therapists around the world how to connect with children. She introduces new, innovative strategies for helping young clients connect online and receive effective support for them and their families.
Therapists will be empowered to utilize clear and proven techniques, designed specifically for children, to engage, process and assist kids via tele-play-therapy.
This training will help you optimize the online counseling environment for children. It will show you creative and powerful ways to help your young clients express their thoughts and feelings. It offers specific strategies to help young clients cope with the current crisis, giving them skills and self-regulation techniques that will be effective in the present and hopefully carry them further down the road.

Upon the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe key guidelines for conducting an online intake meeting with caregivers and kids as well as follow up sessions.
- Implement creative online-friendly techniques to build therapeutic rapport with children and provide support and play therapy interventions.
- Utilize a variety of online-friendly interventions to assess children and to help them express feelings and learn effective coping strategies for anxiety, stress and crisis.
