Our clients often become emotionally and sometimes behaviorally dysregulated - both in and out of session - giving us, the therapist, our own stress and feelings of helplessness in how to help them. If you’ve ever experienced this and thought to yourself, “I wish I had a toolbox to draw from and help the client,” then this is the course for you.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) was developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan to give therapists the tools to help clients out of their suffering and into lives which they can experience as purposeful and satisfying. Many clients naturally revert to problematic behaviors such as suicide-threats, self-harm, explosive behaviors, fighting and screaming, overeating, substance abuse and other addictions, or simply shutting down as an attempt to manage their out-of-control emotions. The DBT skills teach clients how to replace these problematic behaviors with healthy and effective ones instead.
DBT provides clear and evidence-based interventions to help our clients manage intense emotions and destructive behaviors.Join a leading expert and engaging trainer certified in DBT in teaching clients how to self-regulate and create effective life changes. Learn foundational DBT skills and practical applications that can be utilized instantly in session, empowering you and enhancing the lives of your clients.
Upon the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify the 5 types of DBT Skills and when and how to utilize them.
- Utilize Problem Analysis and Solution Analysis interventions.
- Utilize DBT toolbox skills from each of the 5 DBT Skills types to replace problem behaviors with effective ones, to help clients manage out-of-control emotions, to ground themselves and to lead a more regulated and satisfying life.
