Course Description:
When someone dies by suicide it’s always a tragic event, not just for the individual but also for families and the community at large. Many therapists struggle to properly address suicide issues with clients. Suicide impacts middle aged and older adults more significantly than any other age group.
This training covers causes, risk factors, and best practices for screening and preventing suicide in the older adult. Also addressed will be the very real phenomenon of suicide contagion and when high-profile stories and media events can contribute to risk. Learn how to proactively and effectively help older adults to improve their lives and increase safety and happiness.
Learning Objectives:
Upon the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Distinguish normal vs abnormal changes with age
- Identify at least 3 risk factors for suicide in the older adult
- List 3 strategies for suicide prevention in the older adult
