“My teacher hates me,” “no one cares about me,” “my mother is always mean,” are statements we hear in the playroom every day! “I’m NEVER called on,” “I’m ALWAYS picked last,” and “I hate myself” are extreme statements made by extreme thinkers. Play therapy CBT provides evidence-based methods to help kids with their overwhelming, inaccurate, and catastrophic thoughts.
CBT and play therapy interventions are effective when they are delivered properly and when we can motivate the clients to put in the effort. Kids feel good about themselves and better about their lives when they are taught CBT play interventions for extreme thoughts.
In this training you will learn very practical child-friendly methods for engaging children in play therapy CBT activities for ages 5 thru early teens. You will learn how to teach them to increase self-awareness, promote self-regulation, resilience and coping and help them challenge inaccurate thinking through stories, activities, songs, creative worksheets and games.
We will explore patterns of self-hate and negative thoughts and help transform those challenges into learning and growing experiences. This is a training you don’t want to miss if you work with children.
Learning Objectives:
Upon the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Define extreme thinking in children and teens
- Recall CBT play therapy theory and framework
- Apply teaching 3 insight CBT play focused interventions for children regarding extreme thoughts and self-hate.
- Demonstrate a psychodrama technique to challenge and work with extreme thinking.
- List at least 5 activities that apply Play CBT Therapy and at least 3 that can be used via Telehealth.
