Overview
Via live interactive webinar
Course Description:
Millions of Americans toss and turn each night longing for a rejuvenating evening. Distressed sleep is often seen across a variety of age groups, cultures, and demographic populations. The good thing is that there is hope for restful sleep.
Disappointingly, answers to insomnia are not found within the purchase of a new mattress, the sounds of waterfalls or aromatherapy. Fortunately, cognitive behavioral therapies have proven to be effective in helping many individuals improve their sleep quality, often without requiring medication.
Webinar participants will learn how to keenly listen to their clients’ sleep struggles and help them develop effective sleep interventions. Important topics such as medical conditions, biological factors, stimulus control and sleep restriction will be discussed in great detail to develop treatment interventions.
The webinar will provide mental health professionals best practices to assess and treat insomnia. Participants will learn how to apply treatment specific approaches to help clients achieve better sleep. The training will use a case vignette to guide effective treatment and to expose and resolve common treatment.
Participants will leave the webinar with a clear understanding of factors that influence sleep problems, as well as powerful strategies to help their clients feel rested and rejuvenated.
Learning Objectives:
Upon the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe diagnostic criteria for insomnia, sleep related disorders, and related mood disorders
- Understand the anatomy of sleep (sleep drive and circadian clock) to guide treatment interventions
- Recall 4 salient factors specific to CBT for Insomnia and effective sleep hygiene strategies for short and long-term sleep solutions.
