Course Overview
Via live interactive webinar
Course Description:
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is the fourth most common mental disorder, impacting about 2–3% of the population. With a prevalence of 1 in 40 adults and 1 in 100 children, clinicians are increasingly likely to encounter it in practice, and will benefit from advanced skills in treating OCD to help clients and their families. Many individuals with OCD report that mental compulsions - such as rumination, reassurance-seeking, or mental reviewing - are even more challenging to manage than behavioral symptoms. Participants will gain essential skills for identifying and addressing mental compulsions in OCD, while also strengthening their use of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) techniques. Training will also include advanced clinical tools such as Non-Engagement Response, Core Fear work, Attention Training Technique, and the use of Exposure Menus.
We will address subtypes including Relationship OCD, moral and religious scrupulosity, existential concerns, and emotional contamination, as well as what’s commonly known as “pure O". Additional topics include comorbid medical issues, treatment-interfering behaviors, motivation challenges, AI-assisted interventions, and OCD in parenthood.
Learning will take place through lecture, experiential exercises, group discussions, and interactive Q&A. The clinical focus spans children, teens, and adults, with most emphasis on individuals eighteen and older. Clinicians will leave with practical, evidence-based tools they can immediately integrate into practice.
Learning Objectives:
Upon the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the OCD cycle involving mental compulsions and provide relatable examples to clients for better understanding.
- Differentiate mental compulsions from behavioral compulsions and from obsessions.
- List at least 3 interventions to guide clients through advanced Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy based on challenging mental compulsions.
