Supervision is a cornerstone of professional development and acquisition of clinical skills for child and family therapists. The use of play, art, and sand techniques in clinical supervision provides a host of benefits for both the supervisee and supervisor. Playful techniques help to create a safe environment for learning and growth, and strengthen the supervisory relationship. The child and family therapist is able to experientially integrate theory with practice through the use of techniques that facilitate insight into their clinical work and foster self-awareness.
The overarching goal of this training is to equip clinical supervisors with a foundation for using play therapy and expressive media in individual and group supervision. Beginning and experienced supervisors will learn how to infuse play into supervision sessions to enrich the supervisory experience.
Participants will be engaged in dialogue and playful experiential exercises.
Learning Objectives:
Upon the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify the benefits of integrating play therapy and expressive techniques into clinical supervision
- Describe at least five play therapy techniques for use in individual and group supervision
- Participate in hands-on practice of clinical supervision skills and activities
