Overview
Via live interactive webinar
Course Description:
As therapists, we hear a lot about medications and are often unsure what they are or what they are being taken for. While knowing our role as non-prescribers, it’s important to have a solid working knowledge of medications that clients are mentioning to us.
This webinar will introduce participants to the history and utilization protocols of various medications to treat persons with psychiatric disorders. An overview of various diagnoses, signs and symptoms are included in the course and handouts to address the most common mental health issues including depression, anxiety, ADHD, psychosis, dementia and more. This course will cover clinical concerns and how and when to share them with clients and collaborative prescribers.
This course includes a brief discussion of suicidality, prescription abuse and alternative and integrative medication. Lastly, this course will touch upon some of the benefits and challenges that medication offers and the importance of advising clients to proactively work with a trusted prescriber. This course will give you confidence to better support clients in their mental health goals.
Learning Objectives:
Upon the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Recall the history of various medications used to treat psychiatric disorders
- List off 5 or more types of medications for common mental health issues
