Via live interactive webinar
As a clinician, it’s important to have accurate, up-to-date information about self-injurious behaviors in order to address nonsuicidal self-injury with our clients. This workshop will provide vital information about this often neglected, and ever relevant, topic. The primary focus will be on pre-teens and young adults, ages 11 to 22.
We will establish the definition of NSSI, debunk myths associated with it, and give counselors tools to respond to clients who are currently utilizing this behavior as a coping mechanism.
This training will teach mental health clinicians ways to work within the family framework including the parents/guardians and caregivers, as well as how to help families who may be struggling to identify NSSI behaviors exhibited by their loved ones. DBT skills will be taught for the individual and reinforced within the family unit.
Upon the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Definie NSSI and differentiate it from suicide attempts.
- Identify and debunk 6 myths associated with NSSI and its clinical implications.
- Recall 3 DBT interventions for individuals and families to respond to and engage with client’s NSSI behaviors.
