Note: This course is a standalone and also part of the Trauma Mastermind
Dr. Judith Herman (1997) ventured into a field of psychology that most others in her time were in denial about. She taught that trauma is real and that it deeply impacts clients. Dr. Herman’s writings were beyond her time in defining what she called type 1, single incident trauma and type 2, repeat traumas. We will explore two decades of trauma science and the justification of Dr. Herman’s call for recognition of trauma issues and appropriate training for treating it.
Dr. Herman’s treatment model has also proven to be way ahead of her time. This course will explore her three-step approach to regain safety, complete active work and transition to post-trauma life. We will show how this can be implemented most effectively based on all that we have learned in the close to twenty-five years since her publication made waves in the mental health community.
Most importantly, trauma help is available for clients and it does not have to be a never-ending therapy process, for those who are trauma-informed and skill focused.
Upon the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Define single incident and repeat and developmental trauma.
- Apply 3 trauma informed brief interventions based on the Herman model.
