The creative use of games, art, and stories in therapy is an effective way to engage clients and help them to resolve difficulties. Expanding your repertoire beyond traditional “talk therapy” to include play and expressive arts will make therapy sessions more engaging and effective.
A variety of therapeutic games, art activities, stories, and other techniques will be highlighted. The techniques will be applied to specific clinical examples to illustrate how they can help clients work through treatment issues such as feelings identification, anger management, social skills, stress reduction, and self-esteem.
The activities presented can be used with a wide range of presenting problems and difficulties such as family violence, divorce, grief and loss, serious illness, and placement in out-of-home care. Videos and activity demonstrations will illustrate techniques. This webinar will be fun and experiential, and participants will come away with many new techniques to add to their existing repertoire.
Upon the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify 3 guidelines for selecting therapeutic activities
- Implement at least 6 new play and expressive arts techniques with children and teens
- Describe key processing skills to deepen therapeutic work
